Our award-winning Kids on the Block Program was started in 1989 following a joint meeting of the McMinnville City Council and the McMinnville School Board during which both organizations acknowledged a mutual need to provide safe, supervised after-school activities for the many elementary aged children who were, at the time, hanging out unsupervised in and around their schools and surrounding neighborhoods during after school hours throughout McMinnville. As a result of these discussions, the McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department established three initial Kids on the Block programs of 40-50 kids each, utilizing three McMinnville School District elementary school sites.

McMinnville is a community that makes the welfare and educational needs of its children a priority. Building on that tradition, the McMinnville Education Foundation was established in 1998 to provide support and enrichment learning experiences for the students of School District #40. The programs that the Foundation supports go beyond limited funding options of public school.
Our mission is to expand the range of educational opportunities available to students in the District and to encourage excellence, innovation, and creativity in our educational system.
